Un aspect inedit al sitului de la Ampoiţa (jud. Alba)

  • Subiect: The shortest way to come to the centre of the Apuseni Montains follows the Ampoi route, from its junction with the Mureş river to its spring, crossing the area named by the locals "Mocănimea Ampoiului". From place to place, the hills are dotted by limestone crags, testimony of agitate ages of the terrestrial crust. The most significant element between these rocks are „Calcarele” from Ampoiţa named by the locals "Stogurile Popii", "Pietrele Gomusei", "Pietrele lui Bocioacă". The researches done by I. Berciu and R. Vulpe in 1944 and by H. Ciugudeanu between 1978 and 1992 led to the identification of vestiges belonging to Coţofeni culture, early bronze age, Wietenberg culture, Latene epoch and the Middle Ages. The intensity of life of this area has been encouraged by the hills from all around, the existence of the three rocks, and also by the advantages offered by the valley of Ampoiţa. Two of the rocks are present in the upper part, a stage or relatively plain terraces, while the third of them is a sharp peak splinted into two Our purpose was the identification of vestiges of settlement on these rocks. We paid attention to the second rock, as the access to the other rocks was much difficult because of their vertical walls with various heights between twenty and fifty meter. The upper stage is favourable for living. Here we found some surface pottery, the ceramic fragments belonging to the second and the third phase of the Wietenberg culture. Adobe fragments (PI. IV, 4) with rod traces, calcined bones, splinters of quartz and quarzal grindstone were also found. The adobe proves the existence of some shelters. Both the clay and the wood necessary to build must have been transported from the bottom, requiring an easy road to use. In conclusion, the settlement on this rock was only for refuge. Similar situations were met on other sites on the Ampoiţa Valley, as „Calcarele” from the Ampoiţa are characterized by difficult access.
