Mahalaua Colţei

  • Subiect: The author aims at rendering the dynamic life of an old Bucharestan area - the Coţei quarter, - developed since the Middle Ages (XV-XVIth centuries), not far from the Old Princely Court. The name of Colţea must come from that of a boyar (nobleman) whose estate must have been located there. The paper deals with the history of the main buildings (the Colţea church, hospital and tower a.s.o.), with the urban changes in the perimeter, with the main founders, with elements of everyday life of various social strata: a real RaDiography of the inhabitance in the area, reflected by a rich documentary material covering the XVI-XIXth centuries. During the XIXth century, the old purlieu became one of the main cosmopolite areas of the Romanian Capital.
