  • Subiect: The entry of Romania in the First World War seen by contemporaries By way of private correspondence, the article presents personal opinions of regular people regarding the evolution of state of affairs in Romania during its neutrality (1914-1916). From the letters’ texts one can see that the great ideas used by politicians, assumed by journalists, are not to be found among the preoccupations of regular people. The perspective of war emerges gradually in people’s conscience and it always is filtered by personal interests, as one might expect. The consequences of Romania’s declaration of war of 14 August 1916, which were grasped by eye witnesses and written in letters, represent true period “photographs”.
