Marele spătar Iordache Cantacuzino (1651-1692)

  • Subiect: The High Spatharus Iordache Cantacuzino (1651-1692) During the last two decades of the 17th century, Europe was confronted with military conflicts between the Habsburg and the Ottoman Empires. In these political circumstances, the princes of Ungaro Wallachia, Serban Cantacuzino (1678-1688) and Constantin Brancoveanu (1688-1714), adopted a diplomatic position in order to ensure the territorial unity of their country. However, internal intrigues between major political groups were frequent. In this context, the Cantacuzino family went through a very traumatic period. This historical period is outstanding, however, due to its flourishing culture. Iordache Cantacuzino, the youngest of his family, translated from Greek into Romanian, in an easy to understand language, The Four Gospels printed in Bucharest in 1682.
