Între conservatorism şi emancipare: şcolile filialei Sibiu a asociaţiei femeilor luterane (din biserica evanghelică C.A.)

  • Subiect: Between conservatism and emancipation: the schools of Sibiu branch of the association of lutheran women The paper is dealing with three schools which trained women in order to be financially independent. These institutions, namely a school of handicraft which trained girls and young women to become hand-work teachers (founded in 1885), a cookery school (founded 1888), as well as a school for servants (1892), were founded and run by the Sibiu branch of the Association of Lutheran Women (founded 1884). The models for the three institutions were so called Handarbeitsschulen, Haushaltschulen and Dienstbotenschulen in Germany. In a time, when very few women were able to earn their living, these schools contributed to their emancipation, but perpetuated the traditional model of gender-specific occupations.
