The Dacians. About the Rlusion of Protochronism and Other Mystifications

Subiect: The Romanian society is marred by a state of confusion generated by the aggressive substitution of true values by non-values. In the field of historical studies and public debates, a pseudo-scientific protochronistic trend is promoted especially by dilettantes and injluences the less cultivated public. Based on unprofessional interpretations of ancient sources and archaeological discoveries, Roman ian protochronists exaggerate the role of the Dacians in the ancient world, considering them members a perfect society, as a civilizing element for the whole of Europe etc. The article The article deconstructs some of the central arguments of protochronism, exposes their inconsistency as well as their continuity with old fashioned ideas promoted during the second half of the 19-th century (Cezar Bolliac, Bogdan Petriceicu Haşdeu), ideas that reached their apex in the early 20th century through the work of Nicolae Densuşianu, Dacia preistorică (1913), and warns on the potential danger genera/ed by this protochronist movement.
