Ceramică de Iznik din Colecţia de artă „Ligia şi Pompiliu Macovei”

  • Subiect: The Iznik pottery was produced starting with the 14th century, until the end of the 17th century. The name of the ceramics comes from the town of Iznik (ancient Niceea), located in North-Western Anatolia, on the shores of the lake bearing the same name. After the Ottoman Empire was formed, at the beginnings of the 14th century, the producers of the Iznik ceramics initially followed the requests dictated by the former Seljuk Empire. After this initial period, the Iznik ceramics was made so as to imitate the Chinese porcelain – very much appreciated by the Ottoman sultans. The Iznik ceramics is renowned for its meticulous ornaments combining Ottoman and Chinese elements. Pottery is known historically for its portrayal of social life and beliefs at the time, and for being considered a symbol of love and peace. The restoration and preservation of Iznik pottery gives future generations the opportunity to enjoy as much as possible the art of Oriental pottery of those times.
