  • Subiect: A Patriot from the Sălaj District: Emil Bran (1864-1941) The present work, based on information discovered in the State Archives of Cluj-Napoca, in the Braharu fund of documents, deals with some significant aspects or the life and activity of Emil Bran. A priest, a real patriot by his training and thinking, he was one of the members of the delegation of Transylvanian Romanians sent in 1892 to the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph. Although he was not so famous and appreciated in his time, during several decencies he was in the front line of the actions carried out at the local level, in the district Sălaj, then in Maramureş, actions meant to improve the cultural, social and political! life of the oppressed Romanian people. People like Emil Bran rendered by their many - sided and consistent activity, during more than half a century, great service to the Romanian national movement, by sustaining the national conscience, among the Romanian population of the district, a population that was deprived of elementary national and political rights; such people like Emil Bran paved the way for the accomplishment of great ideal, the national unity of the Romanian people.
