Unităţile militare ce au staţionat în castrele romane de la Bumbeşti Jiu

  • Subiect: The Army Corps which Stayed in yhe Roman Camps at Bumbeşti Jiu The epigraphic, lithic and tegular stuff discovered to Bmbeşti Jiu in the settlements „Vârtop" and „Gară" certified the presence of several military corps, belonging both to the regulary corps, legio V Macedonica, IIII Flavia, VII Claudia and to the auxiliary regiments, cohors IV Cypria C[tvium] R [omanorum] and cohors I Aurelia Brittonum milliaria. The most numerous stamps found at Bumbeşti Jiu in the vicus from its neighbourhood, belong to cohors IV Cypria the one which remained here since the end of the second Dacian war until in the ending half of the second century. A relatively high number of soldiers garrisoned in the Roman camps from Bumbeşti Jiu proves the Roman's attention for this area. It had a strategical importance in that territory being an main access road through Vâlcan pass towards intracarpathian Dacia.
