Colecţiile etnografice africane Franz Binder, Orazio Antinori şi Giovanni Miani. Note pe marginea unui studiu comparat

  • Subiect: This article presents an overview of a research realized in the period 2002-2004 on three African I ethnographic collections (Orazio Anti nori, Franz Binder and Giovanni Mia ni) that were brought in Europe from Central Africa in the second half of XIXh century. For each collection a detailed study was realized providing a description of each object. Ali the data were introduced in a Querysys database which has enabled a comparative study of these collections. The aim of the study was to highlight the uniqueness of each collection and their important value considering that they are contemporary with the period in which the cu/ture of ori gin of these objects was destroyed. In addition, the study of these collections enabled us to understand and consider the relationship that we have with the Other and consented us to reconsider the importance and the significance of these collections. Unfortunately, these collections who reflect the collectors' personal interest for collecting certain types of objects did nat always enjoyed the deserved attention, sometimes being more or less forgotten. This research is a first step toward the comparative study of these collections, three of the mast important collections comingfrom Central Africa. It rejlects the interest concerning the White Nife Region during the midnineteenth century and a/so today, allowing us to reconsider the past and the present of the relations between Europe andAfrica.
