Teleaga (căroaia) în Ţara Oltului.

  • Subiect: Up until the twentieth century, in the ethnographic region of Ţara Oltului (Ţara Făgăraşului) situated in the centre of Romania, a unique means of transportation made up of a two-wheeled vehicle associated with a plow roller was used for agricultural works and transportation, mainly for the spring agricultural works for plowing; it has represented in the traditional rural landscape a means of transportation with faur wheels when it was moving and with two wheels when the roller was used for plowing the field. This means of transportation was used in almost all the localities from the area, as well asin the Sibiu Depression and probably alsa in the Ţara Bârsei region. The used terminology for this composite vehicle has a significant duality depending on each locality: it is called teleagă (specific ferm defining a two-wheeled vehicle), but alsa căroaie (term used as a synonymfor „ teleagă"), but both are used in the same region and to denominale the halves that make up thefour-wheel carts, halves of vehicle called lately hearse, ferm generalized outside the area tao. When analyying this relation one can establish the complexity of the two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles nat so much in a generic way, although this is possible tao, but especially in a functional way through the modification of the vehicles from two to faur wheels and vice-versa, depending on the practic al needs of the peasant household. Based on this terminological analysis we can establish the morphological class of vehicles representing „ care telegile" (teleaga-fitted carts), type of carts that were functional under the carpathian and pericarpathian conditions by associating two two-wheel carts (called „ cărai", big cart) into „ care telegile" (teleaga-fitted carts), probably the class originating the „ two- whiffletrees" used some time in the past for the rural traditional transportation.
