Ceremonii şi loisir la Bucureşti în timpul domniilor fanariote

Subiect: The Phanariote ruling in Wallachia meant, apart from more or less important changes, some profund shift concerning the lifestyle and morals of the rich, signalling thus mutations in the Romanian society on its way to modernity. Earlier customs had showed obvious Oriental influences, but, in time, the elite turned towards Occidental models. Foreign travelers of the past left us precious data about the Princely court life, but also abut the way noblemen were spending their time. Gradually, the Oriental traits grew more diluted, by the end of the 18th and mostly by the beginning of the 19th centuries, as Wastern fashions and manners increasingly gained ground. Yet, not only the ruler and his noblemen were entitled to enjoy their lives, but also the simple inhabitants of Bucharest. Apart from family parties or entertainments amidst friends, on various occasions, the people of Buchrest proved to have had quite a real social life, mainly dedicated to holydays and saints’ feasts.
