Un templon în biserica paleocreştină Peştera lui Bechir de lângă Soroca

  • Subiect: A “templon” in the Paleo-Christian church „Peştera lui Bechir” („Bechir’s Cave”), near Soroca This article analyses the representation of a “templon” on the walls of the rupestrian church named „Peştera lui Bechir” („Bechir’s Cave”), near Soroca, that is sculpted in chalkstone. The single, narrow entrance to the sanctuary precedes the appearance of the “Holy Doors” in the Paleo- Christian churches. The value of the church near Soroca, beside its age, is that it proves the early existence of Christianity on our lands and preserves one of the few models – if not the single one – of a “templon” dating back from the beginnings of the Orthodox churches. Another mention is referring to the Romanian term „tâmpla”, more rarely used in order to designate the iconostasis. Most probably it is assimilated from the Greek term „templa”, the plural of ”templon”, which means that Romanians experienced this archaic element of ritual, as well as other Orthodox Christian practices, through the Greeks.
