Din nou despre un vechi lăcaş din Roşiorii de Vede „Biserica Sf. Spiridon”, fostă „Sf. Apostoli”

  • Subiect: „„Sf. Apostoli” Church, later known as „Sf. Spiridon”, after its subordination to the „Sf. Spiridon Nou” monastery, from Bucharest, in 1768, is the oldest church that was documentary attested in Roşiorii de Vede town. It was founded by Şerban Cantacuzino in the year 1708 but it was entirely rebuilt in 1841, on „Sf. Spiridon” monastery’s expenses and all according to the specific architectural style of the epoch, as consequence of the major destruction of an earthquake that happened in 1838. The successive interventions at this church altered its image considerably and it looks nowadays, after the latest renovations from the end of the 20th Century, completely different from the two most important phases in its existence. From the church’s inventory of ecclesiastical assets there have been preserved only three icons, created by Aldea Iconarul in 1708 that are remarkable both by oldness and artistic value.”
