Gheorghe Petraşcu - o viaţă trăită în două războaie

  • Subiect: Gheorghe Petraşcu was born in Bucharest in the winter of 1904. He spent his childhood years at Tecuci, where, at the age of 11 he enrolled in the scouting movement of Tecuci. The legion "Miss Oltea" Tecuci cohort, was founded in the winter of 1915. In the Bulletin of Romania's Scouts Association – the year of 1915, here there are published the committee of honour, patronage and local of the cohort they belonged to Nestor Cincu, Teodor Cincu, Diamandi Juvara, as well as military staff. The notes made by Gheorghe Petraşcu in his scout notebook - a true war journal, are true glimpses of the bombing of Tecuci in the summer of 1917, a terrifying picture of a city that went through fire and destruction, suffering, fear and death. The descriptions are laid on paper like a sequence of events, with precise dates and hours, places and buildings destroyed after bombings. He will start a military career and, within the Artillery Regiment 5, will be part of the bloody battles of the Romanian Army during the Second World War, on the east front and west front. He remains dedicated to the Romanian scout movement even after the war, he gets involved in the restoration of the monument - The Statue of the Scout, on its old placement, from where the communist regime moved it and melted it at a Tecuci factory. The statue was made in 1925 in honour of the scout heroes fallen into the battles that took place around the city of Tecuci in 1916. In the year of 1996, he passed away in Tecuci, a few months after the Statue of the Scout was rebuilt and placed on its old location.
