Ţarigradul ca reprezentare spaţială în balada populară românească

  • Subiect: The present study involved the identification and interpretation of a vast repertoire of motifs, traits and symbols of Constantinople from the Romanian folk ballad. The image of Constantinople in the Romanian folk culture must be integrated in the concrete historical context, characterized by predominance of the Ottoman threat and the belonging of our space to the area of Balkan spirituality. Appearing in the folk creation with the exclusive name of Ţarigrad - a Slavonic name with political significance, the city is associated with various representations: the typical medieval city, the center of universal political or religious dominion, but seems to overcome in its complexity the simple representations related to it. Clichè and topics such as “The road of Ţarigrad”, "The Target of Initial Travel (maybe before marriage)" or "Gate at Ţarigrad" as the border between the real and imaginary space are elements that bring this symbol of social routine (the deployment of economic activities, the search for justice, the unfolding of essential moments in an individual's life).
