Chipul sergentului Peneş Curcanul în viziunea pictorului Corneliu Vasilescu

  • Subiect: The oil paintings on canvas "Peneş Curcanul" and "Veterans of Vaslui" by the painter Corneliu Vasilescu is an evocation of the heroism of the soldiers of the VII Vaslui Infantry Regiment VII "Racova" Nr. 25, reached the age of old age. Painted in the year of the Centenary of the Romanian War of Independence (1977), the works depicted in the foreground the legendary figure of Vaslui, the major platoon leader Constantin Ţurcanu, known as the one who, in Pleven, turned the nickname into fame - Peneş Curcanul - Sergeant in his poetry Vasile Alecsandri. In the paintings "Peneş Curcanul" and "Veterans of Vaslui", Corneliu Vasilescu solves problems of composition and color by painting the face of veteran Peneş Curcanul with naturalness and reflective touch. Despite a duplicitous image of Romanian plastic art from the late '70s meant to overcome socialist censorship, Corneliu Vasilescu appeals to experiments of color, shape and composition influenced by various international trends and combines the traditions of modern painting with an original art and an "own stylistic bran".
