Operaţiunea de salvare a satelor româneşti desfăşurată în Elveţia (1989)

  • Subiect: The operation of rescuing the Romanian villages carried out in Switzerland (1989) In 1989, Ceauşescu wanted to boost the rural systematization project. This project would have meant the demolition of 7-8 thousand villages out of a total of 13,123 and the relocation of the resulting population in blocks of flats in semi rural localities. Rural blocks of flats with living standards situated between rural and urban life style were envisaged. The regime wanted to gain this way land for agriculture. It was as if these villages had never existed. A protest movement, called „Opération Villages Roumains”, was born in Belgium, spreading rapidly throughout Europe. Switzerland is one of the countries where the movement has had an amazing success.
