Aristide Caradja şi marea sa colecţie de lepidoptere

  • Subiect: Aristide Caradja (1886-1955) was a well known entomologist, specialised in Asian Microlepidoptera. He has gathered a butterfly collection since his studies in France and he has enriched it permanently, for 56 years. Besides the items collected by himself, he has financed expeditions in different places of the world, brought famous collections and rare pieces so that, in 1944, his collection had 120.000 items, most of them Microlepidoptera and no less 3000 types. This collection was transferred, in dramatical conditions, in June 1944, from Grumăzeşti (near Târgu Neamţ), where it was the savant's residence, to The National Natural History Museum "Grigore Antipa", in Bucharest.
