Muzeul Brukenthal, la expoziţia comemorativă Johann Michael Rottmayr von Rosenbrunn

  • Subiect: The Brukenthal Muzeul at the Memorial exhibition Johann Michael Rottmayr von Rosenbrunn Between the 7th of May and the 31 st of October 2004, in Salzburg and Laufen, Austria, it opened the memorial exhibition of the well known Austrian painter Johann Michael Rottmayr von Rosenbrunn (1654-1730). At this exhibition the Brukenthal Museum participated with the painting named The Triumph of Science and Arts (oil on canvas 274x180 cm, signed and dated, on the right low side: Rottmayr V. Rosenbrunn, 1710; inventory number 982) [photo 1]. Taking into consideration this event this paper brings into attention some notable participations of a number of paintings belonging to the Brukenthal Museum at some great exhibitions of European art organized in Romania as well as abroad. Then the paper makes a presentation of the both exhibitions Rottmayr that were simultaneously opened in Salzburg and Laufen (the native town of the painter). The exhibitions commemorate 350 years from the birth of the painter. After the concise presentation of the catalogue of the exhibition [photo 2] the paper presents the painter's biographical data and the description of his work. The author of this paper comments upon the work belonging to the Brukenthal Museum and the opinions of some specialists regarding this work, emphasizing the special character of the painting in Sibiu among the entire work of Rottmayr and its great value, being a representative work for the Austrian baroque.
