Cercetările de salvare de la Bistreţ, judeţul Mehedinţi

  • Subiect: The preliminary saving digging at Bistreţ, La punte (Devesel, county of Mehedinţi) revealed a Roman habitation consisting in the vestiges of two dwellings. The first one was clearly formed from burnt beams along the four sides. These were many ceramic sherds inside and also a coin belonging to the workshop of Viminacium, by the end of the 3rd c. A.D. In the south-eastern corner, near the fireplace, a hole with ashes was discovered too. The second dwelling has been partly studied. One of its sides is delimited by an alignment made of stones, and near the fireplace a piece of a lead tube with the end fastened in mortar was also found out. Many iron nails, a knife and a trowel were also discovered. The Roman habitation may be dated in the second part of the 2nd c. and the beginning of the 3rd c. A.D. Beneath the Roman level situated between 0.25 - 0.30 m and 0.50 m, there is also a thin level belonging to Gârla Mare culture, and that one itself covered some loose vestiges of a habitation belonging to early Verbicioara culture.
