Lumina în viaţa spirituală - semnificaţia hristofaniei de pe drumul Damascului

  • Subiect: The light from heaven that flashed on St. Paul on the road to Damascus is one of his most important experiences and the basis for his conversion to Christianity, as the Acts of the Apostles attest. The light which covered that one who has been asked for being an apostle shows us a divine presence outrunning any analogy with each of the created elements. And also it reveals to us the sense we ought to conceive such a light as the light of Christ in our spiritual life. This light of Christ as a mystery of the Lord contains: a) the Christophany - which is the real, objective Christ's appearance in His divine Glory; b) the inner enlightenment in order to know Jesus as the Lord. Only the divine flash that is the Holy Spirit in God's uncreated light of His intervention, was able to make Saul see Jesus; c) the changing or the remaining of the mind overpasses the order of a proper cognition, and it refers to the whole being of that who comes in front of Jesus. The believer's life changing is also a constituent of Christ's illuminating mystery; d) another constituent together with the light is the Lord's unity with His Church. We might consider the twining of these four constituents which define the Light under which Jesus reveals Himself on the road to Damascus as a draft of an Orthodox vision on the mysterious and entirely real presence we truly enjoy in our Holy Church.
