  • Subiect: SETTLEMENTS AND ARCHITECTURE OF THE INHABITANTS IN THE SOUTHERN AREA OF THE DISTRICT SALAJ The author presents the type of the human settlements in the southern area of the District Sălaj in their connection with the occupations of the inhabitants, with the manner of arranging the households in relation to the main C"irculation roads as well with the manner of grouping together the different constructions in the courtyard. Depending upon these criteria, the author differentiates: I. „classical" dispersed settlements (Bodia, Ciumărna, Păuşa, Solomon), 2. Settlements dispersed along the valley (Fildul de Sus and Fildul de Mijloc), 3. Settlements dispersed along the road (Sînmihaiul Almaşului, Poarta Sălajului) and 4. Settlements with a marked tendency of gathering (Buciumi, Hida, Dragu). The traditional type of dwelling is that composed of room ( .. casă" = house) and entrance hall („tindă"). The author analyses the development of the plan of houses: a. house and entrance hall, b. house, entrance hall and larder, r. entrance hall and 2 rooms and d. dwelling in right angle. The following building materials have been used: wood, stone and brick. Beside the house, the barn is the most important construction in the household. The author distinguishes two types: a. the barn with 3 supporting frames (..gîrbe") and b. the barn with 2 supporting frames.
