O lucrare de Philipp Sauerland în Muzeul de Artă din Cluj-Napoca

  • Subiect: One Painting of Philipp Sauerland at the Art Museum in Cluj-Napoca Painter Philipp Sauerland was born in 1677 in Gdansk (Poland). Between 1709 and 1716 he worked in Berlin; between 1716-1750 or 1760 or 1762 they are active in Wroclaw. According to Thieme Beeker's lexicon, the painter made portraits, but he is particularly known as an animalist. Three of his six paintings mentioned in the bibliography are now in the collections of the museums of Wroclaw, Kunsthalle and Cluj-Napoca. The one at the Art Museum in Cluj-Napoca comes from the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts. Painting „Tue peacocks” (Museum of Art, Cluj-Napoca, MA 176) presents a bird park. Two peacocks are at the center of the painting. The subject of painting, as well as the different linguistic elements, are the tributary of the 17th century Dutch painting. The composition has special affinities with the Melchior de Hondecoeter and the painting by Jan Fyt, but the way Sauerland treats his subject is typical of the German world to which the painter belongs. The dated painting of 1732 is a mature work, meaningful for its artistic perfection.
