Două monete romane inedite din Dacia

  • Subiect: TWO UNPUBLISHED ROMAN COINS FROM DACIA The paper deals with two roman coins discovered, respectively, at Porolissum and in the Iclod village, district of Cluj: a denarius of Vespasianus and one of Severus Alexander, both plated and, alike, ancient forgeries. The denarius of Vespasianus is not made at Porolissum. It combines an obverse of Vespasianus (see f. n. 5) and a reverse of Dominianus (see f. n. 3), but the eagle with the head links, as on the issues of Vespasianus with COS VII (sec f. n. 4). The coin is kept in the Museum of Zalău. The denarius of Severus Alexander is an eastern forgery. The legend of the reverse is PIETAS NVG (RIC, IV, 2, p. 93, nr. 292, quotes a copy PIETAS NVC, wrongly in the British Museum; see f. n. 15). The coin is kept in the Museum of Gherla; it was found in the area of a roman site (see f. n. 16). For abbreviations see f. n. 2; Key to plate: the coins (1 x and 2 x).
