Tezaurul monetar de la Deva, secolele II-I î.e.n.

  • Subiect: THE HOARD OF DEVA, 2nd – 1st CENTURY B.C. The paper deals with a coin hoard of 146 silver coins discovered near Deva (Hunedoara district). The hoard consists of 42 drachms of Appollonia, 101 drachms of Dyrrhachium, an ancient forgery after a Dyrrhachium drachm (nr. 144) and two denarii of. M. Antonius. The coins nr. 24 and 62 are double struck (see the plate). The authors give full list of the coins. The hoard was buried cca. 30 B.C. It shows analogies with the Basarabi hoard (sec footnote 4) buried probably at the same date. The Basarabi hoard has no republican coins but the analogies in composition may account for the same date of burying. Coin nr. 144 is an ancient forgery. Such coins are frequent in Dacia, some of them being issued in the zone of the Adriatic coast, some in Dacia itself (see footnote 6). For abbreviations sec footnote 1. G = the weight in grams; a = the position of the axe of the reverse on the dial of a watch. Key to plate: coins nr. 24, 62, 144 (2 x)
