Cercetări arheologice la Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetusa. Campania 1994

  • Subiect: Archaeological research in Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa. The campaign of 1994 In the archaeological campaign of 1994, researches were carried out in three different locations: the amphitheater, buildings EM30 31 , the yard of the archaeological Base. I. The Amphitheater: Continuing the work of the previous campaign, the maenianum primum, the southern area of the amphitheater and sectors XIII-XIX were researched. 13 cases were opened, revealing the wood stage, precursor to the stone construction. The wooden column alignments I and II were identified, its traces being marked by the ditches carried out in the ancient soil where they had been secured. A large quantity of archaeological material and coins were collected, together with severa! objets lost through the steps by the absence. The space under the stand proved to have been void of ground and the southern box belonged to the wood stage of the edifice. All the discoveries confirm the suggested chronology as a result of the research in the previous campaign. 2. Buildings EM30 31 : The controls of the previous campaigns were canceled and the South-Western corner of building EM31 was uncovered. Two tiles inscribed with cursive Latin were found. No new elements concerning the chronology or the construction technique of the objective were found. 3. The yard of the archaeological Base: The diggings were generated by the necessity of extending northward the main building of the Base. The elements of a Roman building were revealed, destroyed partly by modern construction and foundation works.
