Un exemplu din Cehia: Centrul pentru artă modernă şi contemporană

  • Subiect: Over the two years of its existence, the Center for Modern & Contemporary Art (CMCA) of the National Gallery in Prague has undertaken three interdependent initiatives as preliminary steps toward full reform: the implementation of a clearly defined temporary exhibition schedule based upon the current strengths and financial limitations; the creation of marketing and PR department; and the establishment of a Foundation to encourage local and international el sponsorship. Despite the success of these measures, made emphatically clear with the success of the recent Franlisek Kupka exhibit, institutional reform and continued development has been brought to a full halt by the recent dismissal ofthe CMCA director who was leading the initiative. The author suggests that while the reform measures to date provided a solid base for continued reform the inefficiency of the National Gallery management structure will essentially preserve the reform measures taken to date. She proposes that the only way that the museum will develop freely, as originally intended, as a leading center for modern art in Prague is that it be instated as an independent institution with a transparent financial and management structure, accountable to a new board of trustees.
