Tezaurul de la Sărăţenii Vechi (r. Teleneşti, Republica Moldova)

  • Subiect: „Preparing the next issue of Corpus Nummorum Moldaviae, the researcher Viorel Butnariu revisited the content of the hoard from Sărăţenii Vechi, and show us the results. The hoard is a common hoard from the middle of 17th century formed from Polish and Swedish coins, with few Prussian and German coins. The majority of coins, over 70%, are minted at Riga, the city being used as a main mint after being conquer by Sweden in 1621, and consisted in small currency, 90% schillings. The fake coins are few, 3,5%, and can be linked with immense amount of debased coins minted by Jan Kazimierz II, coins which create the perfect opportunity for imitations, fakes etc. All the coins considered ”fakes” are after Swedish coins, but it is hard to say exactly by whom are made.”
