Despre istoricul unor campanii de cercetare arheologică preventivă. Strada Pictor Nicolae Tonitza, situată în centrul istoric al Capitalei

  • Subiect: On the history of an archaeological research campaigns. Street Painter Nicolae Tonitza, situated in the historical centre of the Capital Street Painter Nicolae Tonitza, former Brâncoveanu, is situated on the slope which connects the inferior terrace of the Dâmboviţa to its superior one, on the river’s upper course. The city plan made by Rudolf Artur Borroczyn in 1846 and especially its completion in 1852 locates street Brancoveanu as much longer, due to the initial configuration of the Dâmboviţa's course, but without actually naming it. The street appears like a main artery, being also a proof of the vast possessions of the Brâncoveanu family, existent in the 17th and 18th centuries. Following the works of archaeological supervision and then preventive archaeological research, we managed to discover what has been preserved of a 19th century street in Bucharest, which could help towards a better understanding of the numerous information recorded in the contemporary documents about the street now known as Painter Nicolae Tonitza.
