Fortificaţii din secolele XIII – XVIII în Trei Scaune

  • Subiect: Fortifications from 13th – 18th century in Trei Scaune At the current state of research, the 16 fortifications from 13th – 18th century in Trei Scaune, can be divided into the following categories: 1. Fortifications with simple enclosure, with or without gate tower, used in 13th century guarding the trade routes; 2. Ruined Roman camps fortified with palisades and wooden towers, used before the Mongol invasion in addition to the system of stone fortresses, but also as noble residences. After the fifteenth century these fortifications, was mainly used as place of refuge; 3. Fortresses with keeps, center of domains, which have a short operating period (less than two centuries); 4. Border castles provided with towers, built since the 15th century, already adapted to the use of firearms, which operated until almost modern times. From the 17th century, they were supplemented with small fortifications, which were meant to stop the cross-border smuggling; 5. Fortress with bastions, this type is representing by a single fortress, whose main role was to maintain order in the territory.
