Făgărăşeni în Cetatea Închisoare, 1950 – 1960

  • Subiect: Citizens from Făgăraş in the Dungeon Fortress, 1950 – 1960 In the mid – twentieth century, in the context of Romania Sovietisation, marked by a repressive political unprecedented expansion, becomes more and more a pressing problem of enlargement the prison camp system by finding spaces to ensure detention at a scale far more ample than allowing the accommodation capacity of the former prison units. Not by chance the Făgăraş fortress is listed between M.A.I. prisons. Făgăraş prison was known as the prison that hosted between its walls, the former Personnel Safety Police, the Secret Intelligence Service and Section II of the General Staff. The second largest category of prisoners in the Făgăraş fortress was represented by the arrested peasants in the nearby villages, brought for brief periods before sending them in front of the courts or released after several weeks or months by local Security. Most of the farmers who have experienced Făgăraş fortress were imprisoned due to resistance to collectivization. Others were arrested for supporting fighters in the mountains and were to be sent to Security research organs or courts in order to pronounce jail sentences on various terms, most of them for failure to disclose/favouring or machination.
