Câteva date privitoare la activitatea şi creaţia pictorului Nicolae Popp

  • Subiect: Some data about the activity and the creation of the painter Nicolae Popp This study comprises certain data regarding Nicolae Popp (1883 – 1952) a romanian artist who worked in Transylvania in the first half of the 20th century. Nicolae Popp was born in the village of Tohanu Vechi (Braşov county). He studied art in Târgu – Mureş and attended the Superior School of Decorative Arts from Budapest (graduated in 1909). In the interwar period he lived for a time at Târgu – Mureş. A several years later he moved to Braşov. Here he participates in group exhibitions held in the city between 1945 – 1952. In a few early artworks he approached Art Nouveau. Later he was influenced by the example of Nicolae Grigorescu (1838 – 1907). He painted in an impressionist manner landscapes and rural scenes in his native village and surroundings. Also, his art work includes: portraits, urban landscapes, still lifes and a historical scene. His works are kept in the art museums from Braşov and Târgu – Mureş and in a private collection from Braşov.
