  • Subiect: The citizens of Făgăraş county and the First World War. Memory and history (II) The First World War represented a complex political-military, social, economic, and also an intellectual phenomenon which involved, directly or indirectly, the whole mankind. The countless limit situations encountered during the whole conflict, had generated multiple attitudes, reactions and actions which were not only related to events, but also to mentalities, education or traditions. If until recently, Romanian historiography maintained itself in the traditional – presenting only causes, military forces and the technique involved, battles, casualties and others – in the last few years, it began to rediscover the event, humanizing it. Sufficiently numberless testimonies having memorial character (journals, memories and letters), persuaded us to try to reveal the aspects which define mankind – compassion, reconciliation, mutual aid etc. To this imperative we dedicate our contribution, trying to present life experiences, attitudes and actions which resulted from the voluntariate in the Romanian army, the events happened in Făgăraş and in the region in the autumn of 1916, the imprisoning and the voluntariate in Russia.
