  • Subiect: Byzantine emperors in the Romanian territories During the period between the 12th-15th centuries, three Byzantine emperors were present in the Romanian territories in Northern Danube. In 1148 Manuel I Comnenos undertook a victorious campaign against the Cumans. The action helped the Byzantine Empire to institute a vigorous military control over the extra-Carpathian territories from the North of Danube. In the winter of 1365-1366 emperor Ioannes I Palaiologos traveled to the city of Buda to negotiate with Louis I the start of an anti-ottoman action. On his way there and back the emperor crossed the region of Banat were he enjoyed the hospitality of the Romanian princes. In 1423-1424 the co-regent Ioannes VIII traveled to Italy and Hungary to ask for help against the Turks. Most likely, on his way back he transited Wallachia and Moldavia to reach Chilia for boarding a ship to travel to Constantinople (translation by Theodora Mărculeţ).
