Date noi privind tezaurul monetar medieval de la Părău (jud. Braşov)

  • Subiect: Further information about the hoard of medieval coins of Părău (Braşov County) The hoard of mediaeval coins and it was discovered in 1979 in Părău village (Braşov county), consists of 5372 silver coins stored in an earthen jar which was partly preserved. The coins and the fragments of the jar are kept in the Făgăraş County Museum „Valer Literat”. The coins were issued in Transilvania (24), in Hungary (3993), in Poland (770), Riga (52), Elbing (11), Danzig (47), Lithuania (46), in Prussia (153), in Bohemia (149), Swidnica (66), in Liegnitz-Brieg (40), Kempten (2), Tyrol (2), in Salzburg (1), in Braunschweig-Luneburg (1), in Mansfeld-Eisleben (1), in Frisia-Friesland (1), Saxony (2), in Brandenburg-Neumark (3), Hanovra (1), in Cieszyn-Teschen (1), in Glogau (1), Höxter (1), in Moldavia (1), Steiermark (1) and Minden (1). The coins convered period 1399-1602 and were probably hoarded at the end of the 16th century. Taking into account the 27 countries, provinces, towns issuing these coins of different sorts (16 in all), the hoard of Părău has an extremely various structure. From this point of view it belongs to the hoard which have been discovered and published in Transylvania up to now. The value of the hoard is 10100 denars. The fights and troubles following the murder of Mihai Viteazul made the hoard be buried probably in 1602 or 1603. The hoard of Părău is of great importance because it completes the information about the circulation of the silver coins in Transilvania and, especially, in the County of Făgăraş.
