Maja îmbrăcată şi Maja dezbrăcată – povestea celui mai celebru set de tablouri din istoria picturii

  • Subiect: Francisco de Goya, naked Maja and dressed Maja – the story of the most famous set of paintings from art history The most famous set of paintings from art history, is one that Goya made the early nineteenth century. He depicted a woman in exactly the same position (it's been told that is a painting of doublets): in one painting is dressed in the other's naked. Art historians place this work between Venus of Urbino, the work of Titian and Manet's painting Olympia - definitely influenced by the work of the aragonez painter -, but it's closer to the truth to say that Goya was much more inspired by the famous painting of Velasquez, Venus in the mirror, owned at that moment by the Spanish Prime Minister, Manuel Godoy, who would have commissioned from Goya these art works. Naked Maja (literally translated the word "maja" means "beautiful and elegant woman of the people") looks to us as bold and naughty as two hundred years ago. This is the reason why this painting attracts so many people and makes them wonder who could be this woman. One thing is certain. Even today, at the Prado Museum, Naked Maja (1800) and Dressed Maja (1803) hang side by side.
