De la cort la palat. Corturarii din sudul Transilvaniei

  • Subiect: From tent to palace. The Corturari from southern Transylvania A group of Roma people met exclusively in the southern region of Transylvania is the Corturari, a noble category which kept the romani language, the traditional clothing, the traditional handicraft and the customs of this ethnic group. The name Corturari remained from their old type of dwelling: tent (cort, in Romanian), from the time of nomadism, when they travelled from village to village to perform their traditional handicraft, fixing and making the pots. The study is structured as follows: a description of the Corturari from Transylvania, dwelling types of Corturari (tent, hovel / house adobe and the big house or „the Gypsy palace"), the description of the tent, the intermediary type of dwelling between tent and palace, „the Gypsy palace" today and considerations on the transition from nomad to sedentary living.
