Organizarea ecleziastică a Themei Paristrion (Paradounavon) în secolele XI-XII. I. Spaţiul Istro-Pontic

  • Subiect: The ecclesiatic organization of Theme Paristrion (Paradoynavon) during the XIth-XIIth centuries. I. The Istro-Pontic space The ecclesiastic organization of Theme Paristrion (Paradounavon) during the 11th-12th centuries can be seen in two distinct geographical areas: the Istro-Pontic regions and in the Danubian-Balkan regions. In the summer of 971, after been conquesed by Emperor Ioannes I Tzmiskes, the Istro-Pontic territory had become part of the Byzantine Empire. The region’s church was not included in the organizational measures took by Emperor Basileios II during 1019-1020. At the end of the 10th century and at the beginning of the 11th in the sigillographic sources was reappearing the Metropolitan Church of Tomis. Its functioning is attested until midd-11th century when the information regarding it ceases. The ceasing of the new about the Metropolitan Church of Tomis coincides with the ranking of the Episcopate of Dristra to metropolitan church. Most likely, the entire Istro-Pontic space entered under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Church of Dristra. At the end of the 11th century in the Istro- Pontic space had function the Episcopate of Axiopolis. This one was subordinated either to the Metropolitan Church of Tomis or to the Metropolitan Church of Dristra.
