Vizita episcopului Ioan Alexi în Maramureş (1860)

  • Subiect: Bishop Ioan Alexi's visit in Maramureş (1860) Ioan Alexi, the first Gherla Greek-Catholic visited Maramureş in summer 1860. Between May 19 and June 13, 1860, the bishop met the priests, the cantors and uniate parish from Maramureş vicarship, thus being in direct contact with the realities in each community. His journey can be retraced considering documents of canonic visits, from which six (Ocna-Şugatag, Glod, Botiza, Strâmtura, Dragomireşti, Cuhea - today, Bogdan-Vodă) were identified in archive fond stored at Maramureş County Service of National Archives of Romania. The documents are valuable from the liturgical perspective and most of all from the documentary perspective, offering information about the church and school organisation in historical Maramureş in the modern period.
