Cimitirul Central (Municipal) din Sibiu, un loc al memoriei (”lieu de mémoire”) şi de artă funerară

  • Subiect: The Central (Municipal) Cemetery Sibiu, a Site of Memory and Fune-rary Art The paper is aiming at presenting a brief history of Sibiu Central cemetery, a site of memory for all the ethnic and religious communities of the multiethnic and multiconfessional city. The site was opened in 1907 outside the city, close to the forest Dumbrava, being designed as a parc cemetery. The gravesites range from simple, unadorned headstones to elaborate monuments and crypts. The most important monument, comissioned to the quite famous sculptor Margarete Depner (1885-1970) from Braşov, belongs to the grave of the Saxon feminist, Lotte Binder (1880-1930).
