Societatea istorico-arheologică "Bucureştii Vechi"

  • Subiect: The „Bucureştii vechi" („Old Bucharest") historical and archeological society was founded at the initiative of prof. dr. Constantin Moisil, general director of the State Archives, in 1929, and with the collaboration of prof. univ. dr. Ion Andrieşescu, director of the Museum of Antiquities. Academician Constantin Moisil, celebrated by the Romanian numismatists a February 19th 1930, was recording, at that moment, 40 years of didactical activity, 30 years of numismatic activity, 15 years of archivist activity. He was the one who introduced the modern numismatic science in Romania, who founded the Numismatic Cabinet of the Romanian Academy, who contributed in organizing the State Archives in Bucharest and within the country. He was informed about all the current practices in the fields that interested him in France, England, Germany, Switzerland a.s.o., finding their sources of inspiration for his own restless initiatives in modernizing the scientific and cultural life of his country. During his epoch, the old vestiges of Bucharest were menaced of becoming extinct due to various changes, so Acad. C. Moisil launched a call for the cultural authorities of his time to get involved in discovering and preserving the history of the Capital, of its buildings, streets, events. All these concerns were stipulated by the program of the „Old Bucharest" Society, validated on February 16th, 1930. The concern with various historic aspects of the life of the Romanian Capital was shared by the „Old Bucharest" Society and the Museum of Bucharest.
