Canonicul şi profesorul Ştefan Roşianu (1867-1937), o personalitate importantă a Bisericii Greco-Catolice

  • Subiect: The canon and professor Ştefan Roşianu (1867-1937), an important personality of the Greek-Catholic Church Ştefan Roşianu was a Romanian ecclesiastical figure of the Greek-Catholic Church. Born in Băgău, now Alba County, he studied theology at the Blaj Theological Seminary from 1889 to 1893 and legal sciences at Law and Political Sciences Faculty of the University in Cluj (1894-1898). The beginnings of his career are related to the city of Cluj, where he was priest and theology teacher at the Romanian schools (1899-1904). He remained known for initiating spiritual exercises, which took place mainly in Romanian villages. In 1904, he settled permanently in Blaj, where, in a short period of time, became a prominent member of the intellectual elite. He was professor at the Theological Seminary, continuing the spiritual exercises. Ştefan Roşianu also was active in Romanian national movement from Transylvania. The distinguished intellectual participated at the Great Union, representing the electoral circle of Ocna Mureş from Alba de Jos county. In the interwar period, Roşianu continued his work started earlier. In 1928, he was appointed canon in the Cathedral Chapter in Blaj. At the end of his life, for a very short period of time, Ştefan Roşianu was rector of the Theological Academy from Blaj.
