România şi Bulgaria între anii 1917-1918, în percepţia ciobanului român Nicolae S. Şucu

  • Subiect: Romania and Bulgaria between 1917-1918, in the romanian shepherd's insight Nicolae S. Şucu Nicolae S. Şucu`s memories have the great merit of reassembling the events which disrupted the collective conscience of the people from this area of the European continent for more than a century. He depicts in details the restrainings imposed by the troups of the Central Powers to the population from Dobrogea, immediately after occupying it. The author provides us interesting information from the point of view of the social and political imaginary too. The Bulgarians were negatively perceived by the Germans, but the population of the town of Constanta as well. Dynaminc and enterprising spirit, Nicolae S. Şucu settles a laundry room for cleaning the soldiers`clothes, buys sewing machines for patching the military uniforms from his own resources and funded a cobbler shop for repairing the military shoes. These activities brought him honor from the Bulgarian officers and more freedom for carrying out all his activities. Visiting the city of Bucharest he was the eye witness of the relics removal of Saint Dumitru by the Bulgarian soldiers. The episode reveals his predisposition for the justice spirit position and for respecting the sacred relics. He was also concerned about the information and rumours which circulate within the city regarding the theft of Saint Dumitru and his perception at the level of the sensitivity of the population of the Bucharest city. Nicolae S. Şucu is consistent in sustaining his beliefs regarding the defeat of the Central Powers, nourished by the USA involvement in the war on the side of Antanta and by the poor supplying of the population and the Bulgarian army with food. Despite the doubts which glided upon his Romanian background, he claimed in his conversation with the company commander, a Bulgarian officer, the superiority of the Romanian culture and civilization by comparison with the Bulgarian one.
