Alexandru Ioan Cuza un simbol al demnităţii naţionale

  • Subiect: The double election of Alexandru Ioan Cuza on the 24th of January 1859 meant a contravention of the regulations of the Paris Convention (7th-19th of August 1858) and was opening the policy of the fait accompli in the diplomatic relations with the Great Powers. In an international background, many times hostile to the Romanian interests, Al. I. Cuza showed genuine diplomatic skills in the assertion of the national dignity. His reforms contributed to the foundation of modern Romania. Forced to leave the throne and the country, following the coup d’etat of February the 11th 1866, Al. I. Cuza would return after his death which occurred on the 15th of May 1873 in Heidelberg, Germany, to be buried at Ruginoasa, in the presence of a huge crowd of peasants. The prince Cuza had become a legend.
