Ideologie politică şi modernizare in societatea românească preunionistă

  • Subiect: „The Romanian modem state-making process embraced some major stages, among them first was the growth of national awareness, sprouting in the 1848 revolution, when the politica) ideology imposed itself as a powerful factor of emancipation, either from social and economic point of view, or political one. Long before, Romanian Principalities, Moldavia and Wallachia, lacked vested interests in the relatively backward economy and culture of the Ottoman Empire, and they disparaged the conventionalism of the Oriental society, which they reckoned to be the antithesis of progres. And so, in extra-Carpathian Principalities, Romanians first consciously started to break with the past so as to achieve national goals, and their efforts commenced the building of a Romanian modem state. Revolutionary waves occasionally rolled through Romanian lands, propelled in part by liberal and nationalistic ideas as well as by urgent needs. For instance, in 1821 Tudor Vladimirescu launched an uprising in Wallachia calling for a "representative assembly" to act on behalf of the people against the exploitative Phanariots and certain Romanian aristocrats. Again in 1 848, renewed seditious currents led Romanians to rebel, asking for social, economic and national emancipation, not only by thinking, but also in actions. Some Romanian aspirations reached fruition, however, after the Crimean War, by the treaty of Paris ( 1856), which provided for a "national and independent administration" in the country, according to the most objectivs included in the main documents on politica! ideology since the end of XVIII-th century up to the Union ofRomanian Principalities. ”
