Autonomy and epistemic humility: reassembling the discipline

  • Subiect: The enthusiastic acceptance of ways of thinking and doing borrowed from other disciplines and research traditions should be replaced with a thorough examination of what they bring, in order to preserve the capacity of archaeology to set its own research aims and to choose its tools. Instead of using the prestige benefits offered by outside authorities, we should make modesty a central epistemic virtue.
