A Historical Geography Regarding the Beginning of Human Settlements on the Borcea Branch Bank and Their Prehistory

  • TITLU în română: Geografia istorică privind începutul aşezărilor umane pe malul Braţului Borcea şi preistoria lor
  • Subiect: The article „A Historical Geography Regarding the Beginning of Human Settlements on the Borcea Branch Bank and Their Prehistory " is a sequel to „ A Historical Geography Regarding the Beginning of Human Settlements on the Borcea Branch Bank " issued in No 8 of „ Historia " magazine. Historical research on establishing the beginning of human settlements in south-east Romania at Low-Danube has encountered a series of difficulties and controversies. This was due both to the tendency of synchronous approach of historical processes in the Carpato-DanubianoPontic area starting from the Paleolithic, and to the exclusive use of the archaeological, comparison method and C 1 4 method. Historical Geography, as a way of researching prehistory in this area where The Getic Lake persisted until the holocene, has proved to be a good method of elucidating the beginning of human settlements on Călăraşi terrace in the Valley of Borcea Branch and in the surrounding areas (South Bărăgan and Brăila Fields). Therefore, thanks to Historical Geography, archaeological discoveries and the existing C 14 dating, we were able to date the beginning of human settlements on the Valley of Borcea Branch in Middle Neolithic (4500-4100 B. C.) We have also identified the first populations who started occupying and living in this area.
