The Durostorum City in Roman Age

Subiect: The fortress Durostorum was part of the Limes Danubianus, a strategic line that stretched from Singidunum (Belgrade) and ended in the Danube Delta. Colonization and Romanization of this area began in the year 46 AD. ln the Second Century the Legio XI Claudia settled here. The future city was born near military camp and turned gradually from canabae info vicus, then municipium and colony. One of the greatest generals, which the Roman army had ever had, was born in Durostorum. A ccording to Jordanes' account, the great general Aetius was born here in Durostorum, who had defeated the Hunnic army in Catalaunic Fields in year 451 . Also Durostorum represented a spre ad of Christianity based on the Lower Danube. I mentioned, between the Durostorum martyrs, on Dassius, A emilian, Julius, Heschius, Nicander, Marcian, Maximus, Dada, Quintilian, Pasicrate and Valentin.
