The Bulgarian irredentism and the situation of Timoc Valley Romanians

  • TITLU în română: Iredentismul bulgar şi situaţia românilor timoceni
  • Subiect: The interwar Romanian-Bulgarian diplomatic relations particularly worked hard because of the Bulgarian irredentist societies activity and of Timoc Valley's Romanian ethnic group treatment. The Romanian and international media presented concrete cases of revisionist actions, some of them with a tacit agreement of Sophia governors such as: the propaganda among the Bulgarian communitiesfrom Cadrilater (South of Dobrudja) and the breach of the economic, educational and religious rights of the Romanian minority in the neighboring state. The Society "Aurelian Dacia" of the Timoc Valley Romanians acted to get the biggest support from the Romanian state authorities in order to preserve the national identity and the stop abusing those who were subordinated to the ethnic Romanian leaders in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian state policy particularly oriented to the alliance with the revisionist countries did not encourage a favorable solving of litigious issues, despite the attempts to improve the bilateral relationships undertaken by the Romanian rulers.
